Now I’m all for some good food and love to eat as much as the next person. However, I think Socrates had it figured out hundreds of years ago.

Food is fuel at its most elemental purpose. It is meant to nourish our minds and bodies so that we can live and thrive. Too many of us ingest foods and drinks that are just terrible for us, and we do it regularly.

Of course, you should enjoy life and indulging in your favorite junk foods is okay…within reason. Set a limit on these unhealthy foods and beverages so they aren’t all that you consume. Like anything, moderation is the key.

Only have one serving of ice cream. Only eat pizza once a week. Only drink alcohol (in moderation) on Saturdays. Whatever limits you have to set to keep yourself in check.

American society connects food with every possible social interaction. This makes it difficult but it is a trend that can be broken with some effort. Food is food. View it as so. Is it okay to indulge in our favorites from time to time? Yes. Is it healthy to “live to eat”, always looking for the next excuse to overeat? No, of course not. It is all about moderation and compromise.
